Neste Oil Photo Trophy won by two brothers from France

A picture taken by French brothers, David and Guillaume Specht, has been selected as the winner of the Neste Oil Photo Trophy from 166 taken during the photo rally. A total of 25 cars took part in the event, leaving Paris on 6 July and travelling some 10,000 kilometers through seven European countries, with participants photographing their experiences along the way.

The main criterion used for selecting the winning photograph was how well it conveyed the theme of this year’s event, the ‘Joy of Movement’. The winner was unveiled in a ceremony held today in Esplanade Park in the center of Helsinki, and featured in an exhibition in the park along with a selection of other photographs taken by participants. The competition jury consisted of Eero Waronen, Chief Communications Officer of the City of Helsinki, Sirpa Tuomi, Neste Oil’s Marketing Director, and Osmo Kammonen, Neste Oil’s Senior Vice President, Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs.

The winning photo was taken by brothers David and Guillaume Specht.

“The winning photograph has succeeded in capturing the joy of movement in a very unique way, we believe,” says Osmo Kammonen, who acted as the Chairman of the jury. “The jury was particularly impressed by the powerful way in which the image communicates the joy that being on the move can generate. The picture also features a very dynamic color palette and an inspiring sense of freedom.” The winning team will be awarded with a trip to Finland during the winter.

“Our journey went very well, despite the changeable weather that we encountered along the way,” says the event’s organizer, Philippe Boucher. “The theme of the competition, the ‘Joy of Movement’, made our photography very interesting.” A selection of photographs taken during the photo rally will be published in National Geographic in the fall.
